207 – Adult Overmitts or Insulated Mittens

Overmittens protect against rain, snow, and wind and are worn over smaller mittens or gloves for extra warmth.  Our sewing pattern creates an easy-to-sew version of overmittens with options for adding insulation.  Add sturdy Cordura fabric for the palms for better gripping.  These mittens have an outer layer and insulating lining.  Adjustable D-ring straps close at the wrists to keep out the weather.  

Suggested Fabrics:
Outer Fabric:  Lightweight waterproof, waterproof breathable, or water-repellent fabric.  Palm: Cordura.
Insulated Mittens Only:  Lining - Hi-count nylon taffeta; Insulated Lining -  Hi-count nylon taffeta plus Thinsulate; or PolarTec; or Pre-quilted fabric.

Fabric Requirements, 45 or 60 fabric for all sizes:
Outer Fabric: 5/8 yard (.57m)
Cordura for palm: 1/4 yard (.23m)
Lining Fabric (Insulated Mittens): 5/8 yard (.57m)
Insulation (Insulated Mittens): 5/8 yard (.57m)

Notions:
Polyester thread, four 1/2 (13mm) D-rings.

Size Information:
Measure in inches from base of palm to tip of longest finger.  
X-Small/Small = 6 (15cm)
Medium = 7 (18cm)
Large = 8 (20.5cm)
X-Large = 9 (23cm)
Note: Make one size larger if using extra thick insulation.
